Three things made it possible for Neil Fo Real to become a rap artist. Being born and raised in Detroit (Motown), being naturally creative and having a strong love for Rap Music. All it took was for something to ignite this proverbial powder keg and set the music scene ablaze. In 1988 such an event took place. His first cousin was murdered at the age of 12. His uncle and the family took the loss very hard. Neil especially, and internalizing the pain didn't help matters any. In actuality, this loss only served as fuel for the fiery rage that was already burning within him. Over the next 20 years, Neil merely dabbled in rap music. It wasn't until the spring of 2008 that he began taking rap seriously. It was a reunion with some grade school classmates that led him to befriend Da Barracuda, a local DJ who was in the process of reforming his own musical prowess and building his company, Work First Entertainment. Through Barracuda, Neil learned the intricacies of the rap industry and the inner workings of a studio.
